Continuous Mortality Investigation (CMI)

\kənˈtɪnjuəs\ \mɔrˈtæləti\ \ɪnˌvɛstəˈgeɪʃən\

An organization run by the UK actuarial profession that collates mortality data from UK insurers and UK pension plans and produces mortality tables.

The CMI produced the ‘92’ and ‘00’ series mortality tables, based on a relatively small set of data from pension plans administered by insurance companies. Since then, the CMI has produced mortality tables based on analyses of mortality in larger Self-Administered Pension Schemes (known as the SAPS tables). CMI analyses are based on limited de-personalized data. The CMI has also developed a number of models for projecting mortality rates into the future, including the CMI mortality projections model.
