MI-2017 improvement scale

\mi\-2017 \ɪmˈpruvmənt\ \skeɪl\

A set of mortality improvements published in 2017 by the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

The MI-2017 improvement scale was published in 2017 as part of a report by the Canadian Institute of Actuaries’ Task Force on Mortality Improvement.

The projection model used to create the MI-2017 improvement scale was calibrated using a combination of Canadian general population mortality data and recent Canadian Old Age Security mortality data using the Whittaker-Henderson graduation technique. The short term rates developed were then blended to a long-term rate of 1.0% up to age 90, a linear reduction to 0.2% at age 100 and a further linear reduction to 0% at age 105.
