Calment, Jeanne

\ˈkælmənt\, \ʤin\

A French woman from Arles, born in 1875, who is the oldest recorded human with, a lifespan of 122 years and 164 days.

Famously, in 1965, aged 90 and with no heirs, she signed a contract to sell her apartment to a lawyer in return for a monthly lifetime annuity of 2,500 francs. She ended up outliving the lawyer and receiving twice the actual market value of the apartment.

At the end of 2018, there was some debate over the validity of Jeanne's claim to the longevity crown, with one theory claiming her daughter may have assumed her identity at some point earlier in her life. However, this theory was largely dispelled by Swiss researchers in 2019.
